Biography
Alexander Johnson
Alexander Johnson was born in the West of Scotland, son of a fisherman from Loch Fyne. He began his early studies in Glasgow with the soprano Patricia Hay. He later studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire with Pamela Cook MBE, then won a Laura Ashely Scholarship award to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Mr John Mitchinson.
Alexander won several major scholarships to study at the Royal Northern College of Music but opted to study privately with Mr Robert Alderson.
Subsequently Alexander won a place in the Vlaamse Opera Studio, Ghent, Belgium and continued to study in Europe with Erika Pauwels and David Miller at Theatre La Monnaie.

Alexander has worked and performed with some of the world's leading classical musicians, directors and singers including Guy Joosten, Anthony Negus, Anthony Rolfe Johnson, Friedrich Gurtler, Micaela von Gegerfelt, Marco Caneba, Dennis O'Neill, Muriel Corrandini and Pietro Rizzo.

Performances in opera and operetta includeThe Tales of Hoffmann for Mid Wales Opera; Vasek, The Bartered Bride; Lippo Fiorrentino in Weill's Street Scene where his appearance"...Splendidly lit up the stage.." (Opera Maggazine); Tamino, The Magic Flute( Anthony Negus conductor), Dancairo, Carmen (Clonter Opera); Cassio, Otello (English National Opera); Ogier, Fierrabras (Buxton Festival); Ferrando, Cosi fan Tutte, Antwerp(Andrew Wise conductor); Cavaradossi, Tosca, Ghent (Pietro Rizzo conductor) and the title role in Verdi's Otello, Amsterdam(excerpts, Pietro Rizzo conductor).

Alexander appears regularly in concerts and recitals throughout the UK and Europe including performances at the Buxton Festival, Clonter Opera Sponsors' Gala Evening and several Gala evenings at the Vlaamse Opera as part of the Ghent International Music Festival. Alex supports the work of the international charitable organisation Carolsunlimited, his performances for whom include Handel's Messiah with fellow soloists from Theatre La Monnaie, Brussels and the Royal Opera de Wallonie under the baton of David Miller.

TV and radio performances include the Missa Sancti Nicolai for BBC Radio and appearances as a guest soloist singing Scottish songs from the shores of the island of Islay on the Highway programme with Sir Harry Secombe.
